BOOK DESIGN  -  TYPOGRAPHY  -  ARCHIVAL  -  PRINT

Kaelin Clawson is a writer and painter from a small town in Ohio. This project was inspired by her short writings and poems that once existed only in a small red notepad, which was only seen by her and me.

My mission was to give this small and intimate collection of poems a redefined life without taking from the body of work's original intentions. Taking directly from the red notepad, I chose a simple color palette consisting of white, off-black, and deep red. The book is split into four parts, separating each writing into a specific category. Each chapter spread was created using various analog methods of printing and scanning, giving each chapter a human-like touch and feel.

The final result gives the viewer a sense of connection and invites them into
a world through human nature and emotion with its minimal yet chaotic design.
This idea is pushed further in the final page, which features scanned
imagery of the original notepad and Kaelin writing in it.
